Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Unauthorised use of ‘Presidency’ Number Plate in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man suspected of impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The suspect was apprehended on October 20, 2026, after police operatives intercepted a Lexus LX570 SUV displaying a suspected fake Presidency number plate in Maitama District, Abuja.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, adding that the suspect and the vehicle had been taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution.

Adeh said preliminary findings showed that the vehicle carried a concealed number plate bearing the inscription “PRESIDENCY” and registration number 10B218 FG.

Although the suspect reportedly claimed to be the legitimate holder of the number plate, subsequent investigations revealed that the registration documents were allegedly forged.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the investigation uncovered allegations that the suspect had falsely presented himself as a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the SGF.

The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and the use of the fake number plate.
