The Supreme Court of Nigeria has denied claims that the head of the country’s judiciary, Chief Justice Muhammad Tanko is in failing health.
The claims received increased media traction on Monday when Justice Tanko was conspicuously absent at the investiture of new senior advocates of nigeria, a ceremony that is traditionally conducted by the Chief Justice
The second most senior justice of the Supreme Court Bode Rhodes-Vivour presided over the ceremony, reading a speech that was entirely his own without any reference to, or reason given why Chief Justice Tanko was absent
Reports online on Tuesday claimed the CJN contracted the COVID-19 and is currently battling for his health In Dubai
But the Chief Press Secretary of the Supreme Court, Festus Akande on Tuesday debunked the claims
Akande insisted that there is no medical report so far made available by anybody indicating that the CJN has tested positive to Coronavirus.
He stated that the CJN was absent from the Supreme Court event on Monday because he was out of the country on an important assignment.
