Although there is an unsettling statistics on Gender Based Violence that occurred in 2020 year in Nigeria, Ebonyi State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA says it received over 100 reports of rape cases and various other forms of violence against women and girl children in the state.
The State Chairperson of the non Governmental Organisation, Grace Iheanacho-Chima who gave graphic details of some of the reports received, calls for more collaborative efforts of stakeholders towards mitigating the trend in the State.
The event officially climaxes the 2020 year activism against Gender Based Violence by the female lawyers in Ebonyi state.
Like its counterparts across the world, FIDA, Ebonyi State chapter, strives to bring to an end the violence, abuse, exploitation and violation of women and children which have become prevalent in the society, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ebonyi State Chief Judge, Justice Anselm Nwaigwe, who chaired the event, admits that the struggles of FIDA is geared towards a better society.
The event featured award presentations to some individuals for their contributions to the fight.
