Mother Arrested while trying to Sell her Baby

A woman has been arrested for attempting to sell her baby for N40,000. The lady believed to be a commercial sex worker was arrested by the police in Ebonyi State.

The 32-year-old woman identified as Victoria Chukwube was arrested while trying to sell her four-month-old baby boy to raise money to start a business selling drinks.

Ebonyi State Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah said Chukwube was arrested following a tip-off.

Odah said; “so her name is Chukwube Victoria, she told us she is a commercial sex hawker and that she has this baby which she carrying.

“She said if she leaves here she would continue to look out for prospective buyers.

“But we tried to talk to her and to make her see the value of being a mother, but she refused.

“She even told us that if we allow her to go home with the baby she will throw the baby away and that she can’t tell who got her pregnant.”

Upon being interrogated, the lady refused to disclose her state of origin or local government but maintained that she does not have the financial ability to take care of the child.

“I am from Nigeria, 32 years old, a commercial sex hawker and my baby is just four months old.

“I want to sell the baby at the rate of N40,000 to start up a business. I have a fridge and I reside at Ogbe Hausa in Abakaliki.”

Recall how a 22-year-old woman identified as Seun Oladayo was arrested by the men of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo West Local Government area of Ondo State for selling her day-old baby girl for N10,000 to a pastor.

Oladayo, who hails from Abejoye in Ondo Kingdom said she could not cater for the baby because the father of the child, one Tope, dumped her the day he was told that she was pregnant.

“I asked the Pastor to take the baby away and bring N10,000 because I don’t know how I am going to take care of the baby,” she confessed.

The Ondo- based Pastor was identified as Olawale but popularly called Eri Aditu.

The mother of the baby, Seun Oladayo, had wanted the baby to die after delivering but her brother alerted Pastor Olawale, who paid for the baby.

It was gathered her family forced the baby out as it was not up to 36 weeks by giving the mother some drips and bursting the fluid in the womb.

The doctor that did the job of flushing the baby out was to be paid N5000 out of the N10,000.
