The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has taken delivery of two Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses donated by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), in what has been described as a strategic boost to sustainable governance and inter-agency collaboration.

In a statement released by BPP’s Head of Public Relations, Zira Zakka Nagga, the donation was lauded as more than a logistical upgrade—it was positioned as a powerful endorsement of the “Nigeria First” policy, a national push to prioritise local resources, solutions, and innovation.

“The deployment of CNG-powered vehicles represents a deliberate shift toward cleaner, more cost-effective energy, while supporting Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves,” the statement read.

The BPP noted that by embracing locally-sourced energy alternatives, it is setting an example for ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) on the importance of sustainability, local content, and value for money in procurement decisions.

The statement also praised the FIRS for its timely gesture, calling it a testament to the impact of institutional synergy in advancing shared national goals.

“This acquisition exemplifies the principles the Bureau advocates—preference for local content, sustainability, and value for money,” the statement said.

The move is part of a broader vision to embed economic self-reliance and environmental responsibility into government operations. It underscores the role of public procurement not just as a compliance tool, but as a catalyst for innovation and national development.

BPP reaffirmed its commitment to leading by example, stating that every decision made—from procurement strategies to operational logistics—must reflect a deliberate preference for Nigerian goods and services, where they meet quality and performance standards.

“This moment is not just about new buses—it’s a declaration of principled leadership, inter-agency unity, and unwavering dedication to placing Nigeria first,” the statement concluded.
