In a bold political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Senate President Senator David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola have been named interim leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — the platform opposition figures are rallying around to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mark has been appointed as the Interim National Chairman, while Aregbesola will serve as the Interim National Secretary of the party. Their appointments were finalized during a high-level coalition meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to party insiders, the newly formed interim leadership will be formally inaugurated today (Wednesday) in Abuja. The event is expected to draw significant attention as it signals a renewed push by opposition politicians to consolidate forces ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The formation of this coalition and the choice of prominent political figures such as Mark and Aregbesola — both with considerable influence and national reach — underscore what many political watchers describe as a strategic move to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

The African Democratic Congress, previously a relatively quiet player on the national scene, is now being positioned as a formidable alternative to the APC and PDP, with today’s unveiling set to mark the beginning of its rebranding and mobilization efforts.
