The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed 15 out of the 16 commissioner nominees sent by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approval.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the screening exercise began on June 19, 2025, and was concluded on Friday. The confirmation of the nominees was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Speaking at the session, the Speaker of the House, Chief Olamide Oladiji, urged the newly confirmed commissioners-designate to carry out their duties with integrity and dedication. He cautioned them against using their offices for personal gain and stressed the importance of prioritising the development of the state.“The House will continue to perform its oversight functions,” Oladiji said.
He explained that one nominee, Abiola Olawoye, was not confirmed as he was out of the country on an urgent state assignment.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Ololade Gbegudu, who presented the screening report of the Committee of the Whole, said the nominees met the necessary requirements and demonstrated a strong understanding of the current administration’s policies.
According to Gbegudu, “They equally highlighted their various achievements in previous assignments as state officials and in other assignments they had undergone as well as their desire to do more if their appointment as state commissioners are eventually confirmed.”
Speaking on behalf of the confirmed nominees, Sunday Olajide thanked the lawmakers for their thorough and sincere screening process. He pledged to work in harmony with all arms of government to promote the progress of Ondo State.
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for the trust placed in them.
The 15 confirmed commissioners-designate include: Alhaji Amidu Takuro, Olaolu Akindolire, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Dr. Seun Osamaye, Adewale Akinlosotu, Ayodele Akande, Dr. Tob Loko, Idowu Ajanaku, Johnson Alabi, Segun Omoyofunmi, Pastor Bola Ademuwagun, Leye Akinola, Dr. Banji Ajaka, Adesoji Afolabi and Sunday Olajide.
The confirmation marks a crucial step in the formation of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s executive team as his administration continues to push forward with its development agenda.
