The late former President Muhammadu Buhari will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 15, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with burial rites scheduled for 2:00 p.m., following the arrival of his remains at 12 noon.

This was officially confirmed by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda during a press briefing on Monday in Katsina. The governor announced the funeral arrangements after consultations with the deceased’s family and close associates in London, where Buhari passed away on Sunday after a protracted illness.

President Buhari’s death has triggered an outpouring of national grief and heartfelt tributes from across political, religious, and ethnic divides. He was widely regarded as a towering figure in Nigeria’s modern political history, having served both as a military Head of State (1983–1985) and a democratically elected president (2015–2023).

Describing Buhari as a “national icon,” Governor Radda said:

“We pray Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus. On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, we extend heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, to all Nigerians, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this monumental loss. May Allah give us the strength to bear it.”

Governor Radda disclosed that the Katsina State Government, in conjunction with federal authorities and the Buhari family, is coordinating efforts to ensure a befitting and dignified farewell for the former president.

The final rites in Daura are expected to draw a high-profile gathering, including top government officials, diplomats, political leaders, and dignitaries from within and outside the country.

Security agencies have reportedly stepped up arrangements in Daura and surrounding areas in anticipation of large crowds and international guests.
