Controversial Nigerian lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has stirred online debate after declaring that former President Goodluck Jonathan is the only living southern politician capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Taking to his verified X handle, Adeyanju argued that a coalition ticket featuring Goodluck Jonathan and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would be the most viable combination to unseat Tinubu.
According to Adeyanju, another strong option would be pairing a younger Northern candidate with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, to appeal to the youth demographic.
In his opinion, the best ticket to defeat Tinubu in 2027 is a Goodluck Jonathan/Kwankwaso alliance or a younger Northerner running with Peter Obi. Atiku will not excite the youth vote and may lose support among young Nigerians.

His comments have since gone viral, igniting heated conversations across social media platforms. While some users agreed with Adeyanju’s assessment, others dismissed it, pointing to Jonathan’s political silence and past controversies.
The 2027 election is already beginning to generate buzz, as politicians and analysts weigh in on potential challengers to the current administration amid rising economic and social pressures across the country.
