The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked a viral claim circulating online that the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) exams have been cancelled due to widespread malpractice.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo, described the information as false, misleading, and entirely fabricated, warning the public to disregard it.
“The Ministry wishes to categorically disassociate itself from this fake news,” Boriowo said, emphasizing that no such decision had been taken.
She clarified that the 2025 WAEC examinations were successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice, all of which were promptly addressed by the appropriate authorities.
On the ongoing NECO examinations, Boriowo confirmed they are progressing smoothly, adding that no cases of malpractice had been reported as of the time of the release. “The Ministry has not received any official communication or report from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body regarding widespread malpractice,” she stated.
Boriowo urged students, parents, school administrators, and the general public to seek information only from verified sources, including:
- The Federal Ministry of Education website: https://www.education.gov.ng
- WAECNigeria: https://www.waecnigeria.org
- NECO: https://www.neco.gov.ng
She further warned that individuals found spreading such misinformation would be reported to relevant security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
“The Ministry remains fully committed to upholding the integrity, credibility, and orderly conduct of all public examinations,” Boriowo concluded.
