The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has outlined major milestones achieved under the leadership of its new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, as he marks his first 100 days in office.

Ojulari, who assumed office on April 2, 2025, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, succeeded Mele Kyari as part of a sweeping reform of the company’s executive team.

In a performance review released via NNPCL’s social media channels, the company described the period as one of “steadfast commitment and forward movement,” highlighting key achievements across upstream operations, infrastructure development, energy transition, and corporate governance.

Key Wins in the First 100 Days

  • Upstream Gains & Operational Efficiency: NNPCL reported enhanced collaboration with upstream partners, improved oil and gas production levels, and 100% pipeline availability, a critical benchmark for revenue assurance. Timely cash call payments have also boosted partner confidence and operational stability.
  • Cost Discipline & Profitability Push: The report emphasized a drive to eliminate value loss, with Ojulari’s administration taking bold steps to cut costs and shut down unproductive operations. “Every Naira must count,” the company stated, reinforcing its focus on commercial viability and financial discipline.
  • Refinery Rehabilitation: On the long-delayed refinery projects, Ojulari disclosed that technical and commercial reviews are ongoing, hinting that the sale of refineries remains an open option. “We are fixing the engine while moving,” he said, reflecting the complex challenges of revamping state-owned refineries.
  • Energy Transition & Infrastructure Milestones: The administration has made notable progress in clean energy, including the donation of 35 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to the Presidential Initiative on CNG.

Additionally, the completion of the River Niger Crossing section of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) gas pipeline stands as a key achievement in critical gas infrastructure development.

  • Return to Transparency: NNPCL has resumed monthly financial and operational reports—a practice dormant since 2021—marking a renewed commitment to accountability.

The company revealed that it remitted N6.96 trillion to the Federation Account in the first five months of 2025, with a Profit After Tax of N905 billion in June.

  • Internal Reforms & Staff Welfare: Internally, the company said it has closed benefit gaps, enhanced staff welfare, and strengthened its performance-driven culture, pledging to become an employer of choice in the energy sector.

Looking Ahead

Ojulari reaffirmed NNPCL’s commitment to deeper commercial reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act, while keeping all strategic options open to transform NNPCL into a competitive, transparent, and investor-ready national energy company.

“This is a symbol of our transformation — determined, focused, forward-looking,” Ojulari declared.
