President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of match bonuses and allowances for the Super Falcons ahead of their final clash against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, announced the development while speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

Dikko confirmed that all entitlements, covering matches up to and including the WAFCON final on July 26 have already been disbursed for immediate payment to players, coaches, and team officials.

Describing the move as “policy in motion,” Dikko said it reflects President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes. He added that this proactive approach to sports administration would now be institutionalised, ensuring prompt and drama-free payments in future tournaments.

“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko said. “Future generations will appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector.”

In addition to the Super Falcons, Dikko revealed that the policy also extends to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are preparing for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire. He assured that D’Tigress will enjoy enhanced allowances and timely payments under the new regime.

The decision comes as a major morale boost for the Super Falcons, who have displayed an impressive performance throughout the tournament and are now set to face hosts Morocco in the final.
