Ebonyi State Governor Suspends 87 Govt Officials

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 87 government officials, including top-ranking aides, for failing to attend a critical government event.

In a statement released on Monday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the governor directed the affected officials to proceed on a one-month working suspension without pay, effective immediately.

The affected officials are: 25 Commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), 24 Special Assistants (SAs) and 22 Permanent Secretaries.The statement emphasized that the suspension is not only punitive but also serves as a stern warning to all public office holders under the current administration.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” Uzor stated.

The suspended commissioners have been ordered to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries, while all suspended officials are barred from signing any official documents during the period.

Governor Nwifuru, through his press secretary, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to discipline, accountability, and commitment to public service, warning that future derelictions would not be tolerated.
