Six Yola Law School Students who were kidnapped in Benue State on 26th July, have regained their freedom at the early hours of today.

The victims are Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.

According to news reports, one of the victims was released earlier, while the others regained their freedom at the early hours of Friday after a ransom was paid. However, the full details of their release and the amount paid is still unknown.

The students were abducted while travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to the Yola campus of the Nigerian Law School in Adamawa State, following a court externship break. Lectures were scheduled to resume the following Monday.

The abduction occurred along the notoriously unsafe Wukari–Benue route, where armed bandits are known to operate.

Confirming the news of the students release, the Benue State police command released a statement.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Edet Udeme, said, “Police authorities confirmed the rescue, assuring the public of their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.”

The students are now enroute to their campus in Yola.
