Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State, arresting several youths suspected to be internet fraudsters.
According to eyewitness accounts, the operation took place in the early hours of Sunday during a pool party at the library premises.
The raid comes barely five days after EFCC operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested a suspected internet fraudster in possession of two locally-made pistols during an operation at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was among 55 people apprehended in that Wednesday operation.
A viral video from Sunday’s raid at the Obasanjo Library showed panic-stricken youths fleeing as gunshots were fired. EFCC operatives reportedly arrested several individuals and seized “more than 20 luxury cars and other valuable items.”
Sources disclosed that the raid was carried out by operatives from the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC.
An X user, identified as A. Ayomide, shared his account of the incident: “Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL, got there and the crowd was too much. I don’t like the settings, my guy doesn’t like the settings, so we were just at the car park.
“Left around 1:30, 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL.”
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the development but withheld further details. “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he said.
