President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation working trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Asia.
In Japan, the President will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20 to 22 in the city of Yokohama. The summit, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, strengthening business environments, and fostering institutional growth through private investment and innovation.
Discussions will also address building a resilient and sustainable African society for human security, peace, and stability.
Beyond attending plenary sessions, President Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.
TICAD, launched in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia in August 2022.
Following TICAD9, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil’s capital, from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, on the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
While in Brazil, he will meet with his host, attend a business forum with Brazilian investors, and oversee the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation between both countries.
The President will be accompanied by key ministers and senior officials throughout the trip.
