Senate President Godswill Akpabio has debunked rumours circulating on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised in London.
Speaking to journalists on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning, Akpabio described the claims as “the imagination of the purveyors,” insisting he was “fit as a fiddle.”
“There’s nothing like such. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he said.
Akpabio had earlier attended the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, held between July 29 and 31, before proceeding to the UK. He noted that the Nigerian delegation at the conference played a key role in pushing for deeper democratic governance and stronger collaboration among arms of government.
The Senate President, who appeared in high spirits, was received at the Presidential Wing of the airport by senators, aides, and supporters.
He assured Nigerians of more robust legislative engagements when the National Assembly reconvenes, promising that citizens would see “greater benefits of democratic governance” through synergy with the executive and judiciary.
