The Delta State Government has awarded a ₦35 billion contract to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the reconstruction of a critical section of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road.

The project, advertised through the State Tenders Board, covers the stretch from the Spare Parts Market U-Turn in Effurun to just after Ohore Junction before Omenta Bridge in Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas. Work will span 10 kilometres—five kilometres on each carriageway—with an expanded width of 11.6 metres, including 2.8-metre shoulders. It is expected to be completed within 12 months.

The design includes stormwater drains, reinforced concrete pavement, and a durable wearing course, aimed at delivering a lasting solution to the failed sections that have plagued commuters for years.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, under his MORE Agenda, has prioritised infrastructure renewal and sustainable urban development. He said the intervention is part of efforts to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and boost economic activity along one of the busiest gateways into Delta State.

Although the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road falls under the Federal Government’s jurisdiction, persistent gridlock, failed sections, and frequent accidents have forced the state to step in.

The governor assured residents and road users that engaging CCECC, known for its track record in large-scale infrastructure projects, would guarantee quality and durability.

The move highlights Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure that supports inclusive growth and prosperity, ensuring safer and faster access to markets, industries, and neighbouring states.
