The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has assured Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, of his intervention in the activist’s long-running standoff with the Nigerian government.
The monarch pledged to prevail on the federal government to remove Igboho’s name from its wanted list, following an appeal by the activist.
Igboho was declared wanted in July 2021 after the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his Ibadan residence, where a stockpile of arms was reportedly discovered.
Speaking at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, over the weekend, the Ooni said he has forgiven Igboho for past remarks against him and praised the activist’s courage in advocating for Yoruba rights.
“I am not angry with you because I am the father of all. You are a brave man and our pride in Yorubaland, and you will not die young,” the monarch said.
He added: “We are going to ensure that your name is removed from the wanted list. Ile-Ife is the source of the universe, and no one wants peace and the development of Yorubaland more than I do.”
The Ooni also expressed gratitude to God that Igboho survived the ordeals that followed his declaration as wanted by Nigerian security agencies, stressing the importance of unity, peace, and development in Yorubaland.
