The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to pay mandatory dues.
The decision was announced on Saturday by the NNPP State Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, during a press briefing in Kano. According to him, Jibrin’s repeated public criticisms of the party and its leadership left no option but expulsion.
“A reconciliation committee was set up after his interview on Channels Television, but instead of dialogue, he went further to undermine our interests and openly declared loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa stated.
Fallout With Kwankwasiyya
Jibrin’s expulsion comes just a day after he hinted he might leave the NNPP, saying he was politically mature enough to decide his own future.Dungurawa, however, dismissed his claims, describing him as a “weak politician” whose political survival has always depended on the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he returned to the House of Representatives. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa added.
Financial Dispute
The NNPP chairman further accused Jibrin of failing to fulfil his financial obligations to the party, stressing that legal action would be taken to recover outstanding membership dues.
“It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so. We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party,” he said.
Jibrin, a former federal lawmaker under the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the NNPP in 2022 and secured reelection under its platform. His expulsion underscores the deepening cracks in Kano’s political scene, where loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement often shapes political careers.
