A Federal High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola from parading themselves as National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), respectively.
The order, issued on Thursday, also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise Mark, Aregbesola, or their associates in those positions pending the determination of a motion already filed before the court.
The suit was instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, who is challenging INEC’s recognition of the new leadership. Bala insists that he remains the authentic National Chairman of the ADC.
INEC had earlier updated its records to reflect Mark as Chairman and Aregbesola as Secretary, alongside other members of the new National Working Committee (NWC). The recognition followed the dissolution of the previous NWC, led by Chief Ralph Nwosu, at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
