Guinness World Record holder and popular food influencer Hilda Baci kicked off her attempt to cook the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Friday.
The event pulled massive crowds, with Gen Zs, millennials, food lovers, and celebrities thronging the venue to witness the spectacle. Long queues stretched far beyond the hotel premises as thousands of eager attendees struggled to gain access.
Many were held up at the gates, verifying emails from an earlier online registration, while security officials worked to control the restless crowd pressing to enter the already packed space.
Baci unveiled a giant custom-made pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres, explaining that her initial target was to fill it to 80 per cent. This, she said, would have required about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice, roughly 264 bags. However, in a bold twist, she set a new target at 25,000 bags.
As the cooking began, supporters roared with excitement, cheering her on as the atmosphere around the record-breaking feat grew intense.
