Authorities have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, who was found dead in a hotel room in Katsina metropolis.

According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on Thursday via his verified handle on X (formerly Twitter), the incident occurred on October 15.

Hotel staff reportedly discovered the officer’s lifeless body around 8:30 a.m. and immediately alerted the police.

“Sources said some empty sachets of suspected substances were recovered from the waste basket in the room. Three women were also said to have been at the hotel during the incident,” Makama wrote.

The three women have been identified as Khadija Ali (34) of Dutsin Amare Quarters, Katsina; Aisha Lawal (30) from Ingawa Local Government Area; and Hafsat Yusuf (22) of Brigade Quarters, Kano.

Preliminary findings suggest that Khadija and Aisha allegedly spent the night with the deceased officer, while Hafsat checked into a separate room in the same hotel later that night.

The officer’s remains were subsequently evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Katsina, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement as of the time of this report, but investigations are said to be ongoing to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
