The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has alerted the public to the existence of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating its Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe.
In a statement issued on Monday by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media and Strategic Communication, the Commission clarified that Komolafe does not operate any personal or official social media accounts on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
“For the sake of clarity, the Commission Chief Executive has no social media accounts. Members of the public are therefore advised against interacting with such pages to avoid being defrauded,” the statement read.
The NUPRC described the move as part of its ongoing effort to protect citizens from impersonation and cyber fraud, assuring that investigations are underway to identify and prosecute those behind the fake profiles.
The Commission urged Nigerians to rely solely on its verified channels and official website — www.nuprc.gov.ng — for authentic information regarding its operations, activities, and industry statistics.
“The public is enjoined to be wary of the antics of impersonators while efforts are being made to bring the fraudsters to book,” the statement added.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and safeguarding the public against any attempt to exploit its name or that of its leadership for fraudulent purposes.
