The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing and expanding downstream infrastructure across the country as part of efforts to foster collaboration, efficiency, and sustainability within Nigeria’s energy sector.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, made this known at the opening ceremony of the 2025 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week held on Monday in Lagos.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Energy Sustainability: Beyond Boundaries & Competition,” Ojulari said that while competition has traditionally driven growth in the industry, the future of the energy landscape will depend on cooperation and shared innovation among operators.
“At NNPC, we are committed to deploying additional infrastructure across the oil and gas value chain while revamping our existing downstream infrastructure nationwide,” Ojulari stated.
“These assets will be accessible to partners seeking to store and transport products, supporting strategic alliances and collaboration in the downstream sector.”
Ojulari noted that recent reforms—driven by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), strategic policies, and fiscal incentives—have opened new opportunities across the downstream and midstream segments. He said this expansion demands fresh investment and the development of new competencies in emerging areas such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and mini-LNG projects.
He further urged industry players to move beyond traditional competition and align efforts toward innovation and sustainability.
“We must redefine our energy systems in ways that are both profitable and sustainable,” he said. “Let’s forge cross-sector partnerships that transcend competition and explore technologies that support decarbonization while driving economic value.”
The OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week is recognized as Africa’s leading gathering for stakeholders across the downstream and midstream value chain, including policymakers, regulators, operators, service providers, and consumers, focused on shaping the continent’s energy future.
