A 14-year-old boy identified only as Prosper has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his friend, Osamede Osagbovo, to death during an argument over earnings at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.
The two teenagers, who reportedly earn a living assisting passengers and loading vehicles at the bustling park, had just completed a job that fetched them N2,000. According to eyewitnesses, the quarrel began when both boys attempted to share the money but disagreed on how it should be split.
Sources said Prosper insisted he deserved a larger portion because he believed he contributed more to the work, a position Osamede rejected. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
In the heat of the altercation, Prosper allegedly grabbed a bottle from a nearby area and stabbed Osamede. The victim was said to have collapsed and died on the spot before help could arrive.
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), who were on routine patrol in the area, intervened and arrested the teenage suspect.
The Deputy Commander of the Corps, Richard Balogun, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect “was immediately apprehended by our officers and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.”
