Authorities in Kano State have confiscated almost 5,000 bottles of beer after officials of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) intercepted three trucks moving alcoholic beverages into the city.
The agency’s Managing Director, Faisal Mahmud, disclosed the development in a statement released through KAROTA spokesperson, Abubakar Ibrahim, on Thursday.
Mahmud explained that the trucks were stopped during a nocturnal patrol across several major routes within Kano metropolis. He said the vehicles were found to be carrying 410 cartons containing a total of 4,920 bottles of beer, allegedly destined for multiple drop-off points within the state.
He noted that the operation aligns with KAROTA’s responsibility to monitor suspicious activities and report items considered illegal under state regulations.
Following the interception, both the trucks and their contents were transferred to the Kano State Hisbah Board.
Receiving the items, Hisbah’s Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa—represented by Chief Superintendent Sani Nasidi, head of the Intoxicants Unit—praised KAROTA operatives for their alertness.
Nasidi added that Hisbah would follow established procedures before disposing of the seized products and reaffirmed the board’s commitment to working closely with KAROTA to prevent the inflow of banned substances into the state.
