The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across the state in preparation for the Ramadan fasting period.
The directive affects event centres, popularly known as gala houses, as well as Disc Jockey (DJ) operators.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in an official statement by Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board.
According to the statement, the closure will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, and will remain in force until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centres) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day,” the statement said.
The board explained that the decision is aimed at creating a calm and respectful atmosphere to enable residents observe the Ramadan fast without distractions.
It further stated that the suspension of entertainment activities will last throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening — particularly for Eid celebrations — will be communicated at a later time.
“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement added.
Owners of event centres and DJs were urged to comply fully with the directive, with the board warning that enforcement teams would be deployed across the state to ensure strict adherence.
The agency noted that the action falls within its mandate to regulate entertainment activities and promote moral and social order during religious seasons.
It also offered prayers for peace and good health for residents during the holy month and called on the public to support the government’s efforts toward a successful Ramadan observance.
