President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s foreign missions, including 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the envoys were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.
Among the prominent non-career ambassadors assigned to foreign missions are Reno Omokri, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico; Femi Fani-Kayode, posted to Germany; and Ita Enang, assigned to South Africa.
Others include former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole, who will serve as ambassador to Canada; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro, posted to Australia; and former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, who will head Nigeria’s mission in China.
Also on the list are Jimoh Ibrahim, appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mahmood Yakubu, posted to Qatar.
Other notable appointments include Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Nora Ladi Daduut to South Korea, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.
The career ambassadors were also assigned to several countries across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas, including postings to Egypt, Ghana, Belgium, India, Iran, Morocco, Kenya, Sudan and Thailand.
The statement further disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador-designate Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK.
Similarly, the government of France has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
According to the presidency, the Ministry has also forwarded the names of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries and requested the required diplomatic approvals in line with international protocol.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to various missions.
