Many passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries on Monday morning after a Kaduna-bound train from Abuja collided with another train along the rail corridor leading to the nation’s capital.

The incident occurred during the busy early morning commute.

Passengers said the train departed Abuja as scheduled but later encountered another train on the same track. It remains unclear whether the second train was stationary or moving at the time of the collision.

Witnesses described the moment of impact as a sudden and violent jolt that brought both trains to an abrupt halt.

“We were moving at a steady pace when there was a loud bang and the train suddenly braked,” one passenger wrote in a social media update.

“We later realized we had hit another train on the same track. Everyone is shaken, but we are waiting for official word.”

Another passenger, Sada Malumfashi, said the collision caused injuries among passengers.

“Just dropped from the Abuja-Kaduna train. We heard a loud bang and the train jolted to a stop flinging people across. Passengers got hit and most are bleeding and severely injured,” he said.

He also complained about delays and lack of communication after the incident.

“Train delayed for some 30 minutes and resumed to Kubwa. No communication from @info_NRC on anything.”

Injured passengers have been taken back to the Idu train station for necessary medical attention.

Emergency responders and security personnel have been deployed to the scene to evacuate passengers and secure the area.

As of press time, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has not released any statement.
