The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has confirmed the sale of 12 cargoes of refined petroleum products, totaling 456,000 tonnes.
Company representatives disclosed on Sunday that the shipments, managed by international traders, were delivered to countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo. This marks a significant milestone in petrol exports following the refinery’s achievement of a 650,000 barrels-per-day production capacity in February.
According to the refinery, the products were sold on a Free on Board (FOB) basis to global traders for distribution to the listed destinations. The development underscores the facility’s capacity not only to meet Nigeria’s domestic fuel demand but also to exceed it.
The company added that the exports demonstrate its growing influence in supplying Euro 5-grade gasoline and diesel across West Africa, a region that has historically faced challenges with access to high-quality fuel, as well as expanding into other emerging markets.
By supplying fuel to neighbouring and other African nations, the refinery aims to strengthen energy security across West, East, and Central Africa. It noted that this approach reduces logistical hurdles tied to long-distance imports, lowers cost pressures in regional fuel markets through closer supply sources, and deepens trade ties between Nigeria and other African economies.
Industry reports also suggest that several African countries, once heavily dependent on major refineries in the Persian Gulf, are increasingly turning to the Dangote refinery as a reliable alternative source of supply.
