Sulaiman Yakubu Kulkude, a driver attached to the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court over an alleged ₦60 million theft.

Kulkude was arraigned alongside Idris Musa and Abdullahi Usaini at the Magistrate Court in Nomansland on charges of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.

The prosecuting counsel, Abubakar Ibrahim, told the court that the first defendant, who works as a driver to the Emir’s wife, unlawfully entered her room and stole jewellery valued at ₦60 million, along with cash and a mobile phone.

He described the alleged act as a serious breach of trust, noting that it was carried out without the consent of the victim.

Kulkude pleaded guilty to the charges, while the second and third defendants denied any involvement.

Counsel to the defendants, A A Abdullahi, urged the court to grant bail, assuring that his clients would not interfere with the ongoing investigation.

In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Halilu Abdurahman, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of ₦10 million each. He stipulated that each must provide a surety who is either a father or brother and a civil servant not below Grade Level 15.

The magistrate ordered that the defendants be remanded pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until April 14 for further mention.
