Grade ‘A’ Customary Court at Mapo in Ibadan, has dissolved the 18-year-old marriage between one Wasiu Abdulrahim and his estranged wife, Muibat, over claims of hot temperament and refusal to cook .

In its judgment, the court presided by Mrs O.E. Owoseni, held that a dissolution of the marriage between the parties was granted in the interest of peace.

Owoseni held that there was nothing the court could do since the petitioner had insisted that he was no longer willing to continue in the union.

“Therefore, the marriage between both of you have ceased to be and you can go your separate ways,” she said

Meanwhile, the court granted custody of the two male children of the marriage ages 13 and 16, to the petitioner, on the grounds that they required guidance from their father .

In the same vein, the court granted custody of the two female children of the union ages nine and six years, to the respondent, on the grounds that they required the care of their mother in their formative years.

“Abdulrahim is directed to be responsible for the education and all other welfare of the children.

“Both of you must provide each other access to the children,” the court held

In the suit, the petitioner had told the court that his wife had subjected him to psychological and physical trauma in the last three years, following constant threats.

He added that the respondent had also stopped cooking for the home in spite of making food available.

On her part Muibat said it was true that she had stopped cooking for the home.

She however, remained  silent on the other allegations by the petitioner.

The respondent had also urged the court to grant her custody of all her children, on the grounds that the petitioner might turn them against her. (NAN)
