The Central Bank of Nigeria has debunked a viral claim circulating online about the introduction of a new N5,000 banknote.

The image, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, allegedly shows a redesigned note bearing the face of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sparking widespread reactions and speculation among Nigerians.

The photo gained traction on platforms such as X, WhatsApp, and Facebook, with some users presenting it as an official release, while others questioned its authenticity and called for clarification from the apex bank.

Reacting to the development, the CBN dismissed the claim, describing the viral content as false. In a statement posted on its official X handle, the bank said, “This content is fake. Let the public be guided.”

The apex bank did not provide additional details but maintained that no such denomination has been introduced.

The clarification is expected to ease public concerns and curb the spread of misinformation surrounding Nigeria’s currency system.

The CBN also urged the public to rely only on verified information from its official communication channels and cautioned against sharing unconfirmed reports that could mislead others.
