Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he would not remain a “sitting duck” in the party.

In a resignation letter dated May 22 and addressed to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege said his decision followed recent developments within the party in the state.

The former lawmaker explained that after extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters, he concluded that his political aspirations and the interests of his constituents would be better pursued outside the ruling party.

According to him, he intends to continue pursuing development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria beyond the APC platform.

Omo-Agege, who expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, said: “It is clear my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the APC.”

He also maintained that his decision was reached after carefully reviewing the internal situation of the party in Delta State.
