Former Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has explained his decision to join Manchester City, declaring that he is ready for a new challenge and determined to help the club continue winning silverware.
The Argentina international completed his switch from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad Stadium in a British-record transfer worth £125m.
With the move, Fernández becomes the first player in football history to transfer for more than £100m twice.
The midfielder arrives at City following a turbulent period at Chelsea, where he was booed by sections of the supporters before eventually sealing his departure from the London club.
Fernández disclosed that City’s winning mentality and squad quality played a pivotal role in convincing him to make the move.
“I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success,” Fernández said.
The 25-year-old expressed his eagerness to learn alongside his new teammates as he aims to further develop his game.
“If you look across the squad, City have quality in every area. I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player,” he added.
The move also sees Fernández reunite with manager Enzo Maresca, whom he previously worked with during Maresca’s tenure at Chelsea.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his exit from Stamford Bridge, Fernández insisted he remains grateful to his former side.
“Chelsea will always be in my heart,” he said in an open letter to the club.
Now fully focused on his new chapter at Manchester City, the midfielder pledged to give his all to help the reigning champions maintain their dominance.
“I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that I will continue now I’m here,” he said.
