Ronaldo Exits International Football at 41

Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 41, bringing an end to his career with the national team.

The Al-Nassr forward made the announcement in a video shared across his social media platforms on Thursday morning, signalling his decision to step away from representing Portugal.

In the video, Ronaldo said he was ready to give up the iconic number seven jersey he has worn for his country throughout his international career.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner wrote “The time has come for me to hand my country’s number seven shirt back. Some decisions are not made with the mind”.

His announcement comes amid reports of tensions between the Portuguese captain and head coach Jorge Jesus following the most recent international break.

The disagreement reportedly intensified after Ronaldo was left on the bench as an unused substitute during a UEFA Nations League fixture, prompting the forward to leave the national team camp.

His retirement marks a significant moment for Portuguese football, given his longstanding influence and contribution to the national side.
