Ifeanyi Umoke, a 13-year-old child, was bound and thrown into a burning refuse dump on Friday for allegedly stealing rice from a market.

Umoke comes from the village of Ini-kiri Benard in the district of Effium in the Ebonyi State Local Government Region of Ohaukwu.

Sampson Oko Nweke, Chairman of the Ebonyi State Chapter for Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE), revealed this to journalists in Abakaliki.

Nweke clarified that the perpetrators alleged that a notorious kleptomaniac was the victim.

According to report, Umoke ‘s mother was no longer alive, while his father, who is still living, is bedridden because of chronic mental illness.

According to the chairman of HURIDE, after committing the murder, the suspects, Paul Ifere Amah and Paul Nweke of the same village, saw the critical condition of their victim and left him to moan to death.

It took sympathizers to intervene to rush him to the AMURT hospital in Effium. But the boy was refused treatment because of the severity of the burn.

Afterward, attempts were made to take him to AE-FETHA 2, where he is actually struggling between life and death.

So the little boy is Master Ifeanyi Umoke, 13 years old, from the village of Inikiri Benard in the district of Effium, Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State.

The Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE) received a phone call from George Etamesor of the HRCRC a few days ago about this severe exploitation of this poor boy.

Since he was caught attempting to steal some rice from their village market, he was bound up, thrown into the burning fire at the market in a refuse heap, and permitted to roast like a goat.

After committing this evil, the perpetrators, Paul Ifere Amah and Paul Nweke, of the same village, saw the critical condition of their victim, but left him to groan to death.

It took sympathizers’ help to rush him to Effium’s AMURT Hospital there. But the boy was denied care because of the severity of the injury.

“But he is currently on admission to the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Abakaliki Teaching Hospital.”
