NIGERIA ECONOMY: ORTOM URGES FG TO CREATE MINISTRY FOR MSME DEVELOPMENT

The urgent need for Federal Government to take a queue from India and create a full fledged ministry on micro, small and medium enterprises MSME with specialized parastatals in all aspects of business to boost the country’s staggering economy has been highlighted.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom made the call in Makurdi the state capital while inaugurating the State Council on the implementation of the national Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs.

In both developed and developing nations micro,small and medium enterprises MSME’S are known to be major contributors to employment, wealth creation and poverty alleviation.

As part of measures to boost this drive the Benue State government inaugurated the State’s council as critical stakeholders to build the State’s ailing economy.

Governor Ortom equally re emphasized his decision to privatise comatose public owned enterprises to individual with the capacity to make them functional.

It is expected that the newly inaugurated council will amongst others provide guidance on policies and strategies to drive the development of the MSME’S sub sector in the State.

The 15 member council is headed by the commissioner for industry trade and investment Merga Kachina.
