An Ibadan-based woman, Mrs Alimot Akande, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigeria Police Force, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and other security agencies to rescue her daughter and 18 other prospective corps members allegedly abducted while travelling to Abia State.
The 19 prospective NYSC members reportedly left Ibadan on Wednesday for Abia State but were abducted between Anambra and Abia states in the early hours of Thursday.
Akande, who spoke with journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, said her daughter was among those taken and that the family had been unable to establish contact with her since the incident.
According to her, the prospective corps members boarded a commercial transport bus in the Sango area of Ibadan for the journey to Abia State.
She said the passengers stopped in Onitsha at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday before continuing their journey the following morning.
Akande said her daughter managed to send a brief message during the journey indicating that the vehicle had come under attack.
“The message simply said, ‘kidnappers!’ indicating that the bus had been attacked by suspected armed kidnappers,” she said.
Akande appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the abducted passengers and secure their safe release.
“I appeal to the Federal Government, the NYSC, the police and other security agencies to rescue my daughter and the others unhurt,” she said.
