The Akwa Ibom state government has cancelled all state government events requiring large crowds.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem said the measure and re-enforcement of existing COVID-19 protocols were necessary due to the second wave of infection globally which has seen an increase in fresh cases in the state.
The recent increase in COVID-19 infections in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom state is of deep concern to the state government and Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem says the situation calls for renewed effort at enforcing adherence to protocols.
Ekuwem adds that monitoring teams are to intensify their activities while religious leaders are advised to enforce agreements earlier reached.
Akwa Ibom state currently has 48 active cases.
