Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District and Former Governor of Kano state Ibrahim Shekarau says the senate plans to introduce 40 amendments to the electoral act before end of July 2021.
Addressing a media interaction sunday in Kano, the lawmaker said when the new electoral law becomes operational,elections in Nigeria will free, fair and more credible.
Senator Shekarau is a member of the Joint committee on constitutional amendment .
Answering question on 2023 political permutations, the senator said there in no written zoning agreement in the APC just like zoning is not in the constitution.He however said common sense demands that justice and fairness should take precedence in discussion around zoning.
Shekarau said that 469 federal lawmakers could not exercise oversight over the executive because elected lawmakers fail to pursue common goals and many Nigerians lack political consciousness.
Senator Shekarau parried a question on his rumoured ambition to become vice president in 2023, insisting that his relations with governor Abdullahi Ganduje and senator Rabiu Kwankawaso were cordial.
