The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Folorunso Kumuyi, has dismissed speculation that he intends to hand over leadership of the church to any of his children.

Speaking during a recent church service, Kumuyi addressed ongoing public discussions about succession in large religious organisations, insisting that the ministry does not operate as a family inheritance.

He stressed that the church belongs to Jesus Christ and therefore cannot be transferred through lineage or personal arrangement.

Responding directly to the rumours, he said some people had suggested he might eventually locate his sons and install one of them as his successor.

“Many people were speculating: is he going to hand over the church to his son? Won’t he search for his first son, second son, where are they?” he said.

Kumuyi firmly rejected the idea, reiterating that leadership of the church is not subject to family succession.

“It’s not his church. Jesus said, ‘Upon this rock I will build my church.’ It is the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and nobody has the right to hand it over to his son,” he stated.

He further referenced early Christian leaders, noting that church authority was not passed down through family lines.

“Peter did not hand over the church to his son. Paul did not hand over the church to his son. John did not hand over the church to his son,” he added.
