French Ligue 1 club, AS Monaco, are set to part ways with French midfielder Paul Pogba, with ongoing discussions aimed at mutually terminating his contract ahead of schedule.
The former France international joined the club last summer on a two-year deal as he sought to reboot his career following his return to professional football from an 18-month doping ban.
However, Pogba’s debut season with Monaco was heavily blighted by injuries, severely restricting his playing time on the pitch despite early hopes that he would feature more prominently in the current campaign.
The situation has been further complicated by recent managerial shifts at the club, where Filipe Luis has taken over as head coach from Sébastien Pocognoli, prompting changes in the team’s midfield blueprint.
Providing an update on the development via X on Wednesday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported: “AS Monaco offer contract termination to Paul Pogba. Club want to mutually terminate his deal by September 1st to let Paul find a new club this year. Decision up to Pogba (now injured) but AS Monaco informed his camp.”
Recall that Pogba was originally handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) during a routine doping test in August 2023.
The midfielder vehemently denied intentional wrongdoing, maintaining that the positive test was purely accidental after unknowingly ingesting a supplement containing the prohibited substance.
His ban was subsequently slashed to 18 months following an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), clearing the path for his official return to competitive football in March 2025.
If both parties reach a consensus on the contract termination, it will draw Pogba’s spell in the Principality to an early close, leaving the 2018 World Cup winner free to search for a new destination to continue his career.
