President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning following a tragic Nigerian Air Force crash that claimed the lives of military personnel.

In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss and ordered national flags to be flown at half-mast across the country in honor of the military officers who died in the line of duty.

Reflecting on the painful tragedy, President Tinubu wrote, “Yesterday, Nigeria lost brave men and women of our Air Force in the service of our country.

This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Sending his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the incident, the President acknowledged the emotional weight borne by the relatives of the fallen heroes.

“Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them,” he posted.

Outlining the steps taken in response to the national tragedy, the President directed that honor be paid immediately across all public institutions.

“I have declared three days of national mourning and directed that our flags be flown at half-mast throughout the country in honour of those we have lost,” Tinubu declared.

Addressing the investigation into the crash, the President confirmed receiving a detailed update from military leadership and ordering a thorough inquiry.

“The Chief of Air Staff has briefed me, and I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences,” he noted.

He also praised the quick emergency response executed by the military authorities immediately following the incident.

“I also commend the Nigerian Air Force for activating an immediate search and rescue operation following the accident,” the President added.

Concluding his post with a tribute to the fallen personnel, President Tinubu paid final respects to their memory.

“We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace,” he stated.
