The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the payment for the first phase of medical expenses for veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu. This timely intervention comes shortly after the 62-year-old actress publicly solicited financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
Martins Justice, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, made the announcement regarding the financial support on Tuesday through a post on X.
“His Excellency @alexottiofr have just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” he wrote.
Justice clarified that while the governor’s gesture is a massive relief, it only covers a portion of the required medical expenses. He urged the public to keep contributing to ensure the actress receives her complete treatment.
“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible you can,” he added.
He also used the opportunity to express gratitude to the governor on behalf of the entire entertainment sector.
“On behalf of the creative industry, we all thank you immensely, my leader. Ndewo sir,” he wrote.
Prior to this government intervention, the beloved actress had come out to solicit for funds, revealing she needed to raise ₦30 million for three urgent surgeries. She explained that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and could no longer cope with the heavy financial burden of her treatment.
In a deeply emotional video shared on her Instagram page, Nwosu pleaded passionately with her fans, colleagues, and family members not to abandon her in her time of need.
“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalised now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control,” she said.
Expressing the severity of her condition, she cried out to the public for immediate assistance.
“I need your help. Don’t let me die. I know that you people never forsake me… I’m begging you, my fans and family, don’t let me die because I am going through a lot, as in pain,” the veteran actress pleaded.
Following her disclosure about the three required surgeries, she further urged well-wishers and kind-hearted Nigerians who wish to support her treatment to reach out directly to her management.
