Kenya’s Minister of Information, Communications and Digital Economy, William Kabogo Gitau, has confirmed his attendance at the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) and the 37th African Public Relations Association (APRA) Conference scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.

The global public relations events are billed for November 15 to 21, 2026, with Kenya also set to participate fully in the week-long programme.

Gitau made the commitment on Wednesday in Nairobi while receiving a Nigerian delegation led by the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr Ike Neliaku.

The Kenyan minister described the WPRF as an African project that requires a continental approach and collaboration among countries across the region.

He said Kenya was interested in initiatives capable of promoting Africa and showcasing its potential to the global community.

“I can tell you for sure, Kenya has interest to participate,” Gitau said.

During the meeting, Neliaku briefed the minister on several programmes and initiatives planned for the 2026 WPRF, which he said would distinguish the Abuja edition from previous forums.

Among the programmes highlighted were the inauguration of what the NIPR described as the world’s first University of Public Relations and Leadership, as well as the Nigeria Jollof Rice Festival and Akara Festival.

Neliaku also disclosed plans for seven-hour tailoring services for foreign delegates and guests attending the event.

The NIPR president further presented Gitau with an invitation from Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

According to Neliaku, an African Ministers of Information Roundtable will be hosted by Idris during the event to bring together information ministers from across the continent.

He said the roundtable would provide an opportunity for African ministers to discuss and develop practical solutions to challenges surrounding information management and responsible communication across the continent.

The 2026 WPRF and APRA Conference are expected to bring together public relations professionals, communication experts, government officials and other stakeholders from Africa and beyond in Abuja.
