In a coordinated joint clearance operation, operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command, in collaboration with the military, have neutralised suspected terrorist elements in Gumki Forest, located in Kangiwa, Arewa Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, which was carried out at about 6:05 am on Monday, September 14, 2026, resulted in the recovery of dangerous firearms, live ammunition, motorcycles, and other operational items belonging to the criminal elements.
Disclosing details of the raid, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, noted that Gumki Forest is a known route frequently used by bandits and Lakurawa elements operating in the axis.
He stated that the joint security team engaged the terrorists during the clearance operation and successfully neutralised several of them.
“During the operation, the joint team successfully engaged and neutralised terrorist elements operating within the area,” Usman confirmed.
Among the items recovered from the scene were one PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition, one AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones, four motorcycles, a pair of military camouflage uniforms, a pair of boots, and various charms.
The police spokesperson added that the area has remained relatively calm, while security forces continue their clearance operations aimed at completely eliminating criminal elements from the forest and surrounding communities.
Reacting to the successful outing, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Umar Hadejia, commended the operatives for their gallantry and dedication to duty.
Hadejia assured the public that the command would sustain coordinated and intelligence-led operations alongside other security agencies to tackle banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality across the state.
He also urged residents to actively support security agencies by providing “timely and credible information” that could assist in ongoing operations.
The police command assured citizens that joint security operations will persist in the area until criminal elements are fully flushed out from the forest and its adjoining routes.
