A 40-foot container-laden truck suffered brake failure on Tuesday and rammed into demarcation blocks as well as other vehicles at the exit of Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official X handle, urging motorists to exercise patience as emergency workers move to clear the resulting obstruction.
The agency disclosed that the crash has triggered heavy traffic congestion, with gridlock extending all the way to New Garage while emergency recovery and evacuation efforts get underway.
According to LASTMA, “A 40ft container laden truck reportedly had a brake failure and rammed into the demarcation blocks and other vehicles at the exit of Kara Bridge.”
The agency added, “Recovery and evacuation efforts have commenced as backlog extends to New Garage.”
In a related development, another vehicular accident occurred along the same corridor inward Mowe, involving a heavy-duty truck and a passenger vehicle.
LASTMA stated, “Another road crash was recorded on Kara Bridge inward Mowe where a loaded trailer reportedly collided with an SUV.”
Traffic management officials alongside police officers have since been deployed to both scenes to manage traffic flow and ensure the quick removal of the affected vehicles.
“Officers and police personnel are on the ground doing the needful,” the agency assured.
LASTMA further appealed to commuters and drivers navigating the busy highway to remain orderly while emergency operations continue.
“We implore motorists to be patient as all hands are on deck to ensure all impediments are cleared off the road,” the agency stated.
