UK-based Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has stirred widespread controversy after describing her childhood circumcision as one of the best experiences of her life.
Speaking during an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, Inyama recounted undergoing the procedure at a young age while living with her grandmother in the village.
According to her, the experience has had a lasting positive impact, particularly in shaping her personal discipline and decision-making.
She stated that it gives her what she described as the “power” to abstain from sexual activity when she chooses, adding that it has influenced her behaviour by preventing promiscuity.
The actress recalled that she was about five or six years old at the time of the procedure and briefly lost consciousness due to the pain.
However, when asked whether she would allow her daughter to undergo circumcision, Inyama said she would not make that decision herself, noting that it would be left to the child’s father.
Her remarks have since generated intense reactions online, reigniting debate around female circumcision, a practice widely criticised on medical and human rights grounds but still present in some cultural contexts.
The development has prompted discussions on the intersection of tradition, personal experience, and global advocacy against harmful practices.
